ICONIC aviation pioneer and entrepreneur Dick Smith was inducted into the Australian Aviation Hall of Fame at a gala dinner in Wagga on Saturday night.
Mr Smith was recognised along with eight other legends of the industry including Sir Lawrence Wackett, regarded by many as the father of the industry in Australia, and Freda Thompson, the first Australian woman to fly solo from England to Australia for their contribution to aviation.
Mr Smith said it had been an honour to be inducted into the hall of fame, which is now in its second year.
“I really don’t quite put myself into the class of the founders of Qantas, who’ve done some exceptional things for Australia,” he said.
“I think I was the only living person inducted and I’m very proud.”
Saturday’s dinner, held at Charles Sturt University, was attended by the Deputy Prime Minister, Warren Truss…
